Situated with direct access to Westhampton Beach, New York, Dune House is an elegant, modern, 5-bedroom, 4.5 bath summer residence. With the desire to capture the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean, gracious floor-to-ceiling sliders were designed to open the great room onto the exterior deck and visibly connect the interior spaces with the beach. With constant horizontality of ocean view desired on the narrow lot, a juxtaposition of vertical windows and vertical wood siding humanized the expansive scale of the vast horizon. Programmatically, the balanced full-floor openness and minimal material palette of Florim large-format porcelain tile and white oak was expressed on the exterior by stacking the program blocks by their public/private interior relationships within the home.

The main floor blends the utility of a fully appointed chef kitchen with an oversized island perfect for entertaining. To maximize unobstructed ocean views from the front entry to the great room a complete loft-like layout facilitated an open dining, and an indoor/outdoor living room with exterior access to the gunite infinity pool and lounge deck. With the desire to balance the openness of the entertaining spaces, the necessary privacy of the bedrooms are separated on the upper floors by open stairs offering a unique visual experience of the lower level as well as the ocean.
